Montgomery County Fire/Rescue Station 17. Providing Fire/EMS service to the North Eastern section of Montgomery County.

The Laytonsville District Volunteer Fire Department, founded in August of 1954, is located in the Town of Laytonsville. Laytonsville is a small municipality located approximately 25 miles north of Washington, D.C. The LDVFD serves the northeastern portion of Montgomery County, MD to include but not limited to Laytonsville, Sunshine, Damascus, Montgomery Village, Gaithersburg, Washington Grove, Olney, and Sandy Spring. Company 17’s first due consists of mostly residential and farm communities, with scattered businesses. On average the Laytonsville District Volunteer Fire Department responds to approximately 2,500 calls annually.

The LDVFD bought its first motorized fire engine in 1952. This piece of apparatus was a 1930 Brockway Pumper, which was purchased from the Hyattstown Volunteer Fire Department. “Minnie” is still owned and operated by the LDVFD today. Since 1952 Company 17’s Fleet has increased to:
2 Engine Companies, One 2000 Gallon Engine Tanker, One 3500 Gallon Tanker, One Heavy Rescue Squad, One Ambulance, and One Brush Truck, as well as a variety of staff and support vehicles, and “Minnie”.
